For this problem the stiffer material (brass) will be transformed into an equivalent amount of the less stiff material (aluminum).

Set up the modular ratio so that E of the material being transformed is the numerator and E of the unchanged material is the denominator.

Modular ratio:

Multiply the width of the brass bar by the modular ratio to obtain the transformed cross section that will be used for calculation purposes.
