For each configuration, the resultant force on the front side of the board is larger than the force on the back side (due to ΔM which exists if V ≠ 0). Consequently, the resultant forces on the top boards are unbalanced whenever V ≠ 0.

Note that the net resultant force on the top board is proportional to the section property Q and the transverse shear force V.
