Use the superposition method to determine the magnitude of force P required to make the deflection of the beam equal to zero at B.

Two cantilever beam cases from standard tables will be used:

• uniformly distributed load over the entire span

• concentrated load at the free end

Since the problem involves the beam deflection at B rather than the deflection at the tip of the cantilever, the elastic curve equation will be needed for the uniformly distributed load case.
The concentrated load case will also need to be adapted to apply to this particular beam.
