Two formats are commonly used for these sketches:

(1) sketching both the principal and maximum shear stresses on a single, properly-oriented wedge stress element, or

(2) sketching the principal stresses on a properly-oriented square stress element and sketching the maximum shear stress (with its corresponding normal stress) on a second square stress element at a different orientation.
