The figure shows a cylindrical rod A B on the left labeled 1 of length 1600 millimeters attached to another cylindrical rod B C labeled 2 on the right of length 1800 millimeters by a flange at B. The rods are attached to rigid supports at A and C. The load on the flange is 120 kilo newtons directed to the right along the common axis of the cylinders. The x axis is taken along the axis of the cylinders and the y axis is taken along the rigid support at A and perpendicular to the x axis. The incremental temperature is delta T which equals 25 degrees Celsius.
